EgyptAir Plane Hijack - forced to land at Larnaca, Cyprus
Most of the passengers on board a hijacked Egyptian airliner that was forced to divert to Cyprus have been freed, the airline says. EgyptAir said negotiations had resulted in the release of all those on board Flight MS181 apart from the crew and four foreign passengers. Video from Larnaca airport has shown people leaving the plane and boarding a bus. It was taken over after a passenger said he was wearing an explosives belt. Flight MS181 was carrying 81 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo. Latest reports from Cypriot media suggest there is just one hijacker who was motivated by "personal reasons" and may be seeking asylum - although this has not been confirmed. Larnaca airport, on the south coast of Cyprus, has been closed and scheduled flights diverted elsewhere. "The pilot said that a passenger told him he had an explosives vest and forced the plane to land in Larnaca," the Egyptian civil aviation ministry said in a statement. [Breaking news update at 4:21 AM ET] A statement from the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry says that there are five foreign nationals and seven Egyptian crew members aboard the hijacked EgyptAir flight. Earlier, the ministry and EgyptAir said there were four foreign nationals. According the ministry, the non-Egyptian passengers include eight Americans, four Dutch, two Belgians, four Britons, one Syrian, one French and one Italian. The statement did not specify which of these passengers remain on board. EgyptAir had previously reported through its official Twitter account that five foreigners were being held captive on the plane, but changed to four. Re: EgyptAir Plane Hijack - forced to land at Larnaca, Cyprus
Egyptians don't seem overly concerned about the health of their Tourism Industry. Still with bad airport security. It's no wonder that the Russian jet was blown out of the sky and that this jet was hijacked. Who today feels safe about travelling to, from, in and/or around Egypt? |

'Tis over, it seems. Passengers freed, hijacker arrested. The real world is such a strange place. http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/29/europe...egypt-air-jet/ |
