Simple solution there: any carrier or shipper should require truckers to have their phones rigged to be internet-incapable when the GPS pings a travel rate beyond a certain speed. No safeguard, no load.

Well they've already done that with the Quaalcom unit. You cannot operate it when the vehicle is moving but there is no way to control private, personal phones.

Sure there is. No safeguard, no load. You can't control someone's phone, but you can control whether or not someone whose phone lacks the proper modifications works for you or not. |

 It would be kinda pointless to try and police a driver's phone, installing programs and other crap when they could just get another phone... and,you don't even have a CDL. All the major logistics companies(there aren't any trucking companies anymore, they're in the logistics business)that haul crude oil here have a GPS, Camera, and audio recording black box installed in the trucks nowadays to see EXACTLY what the driver is doing. Forward and inward facing camera to tell if the driver is nodding-off, smoking a cig, talking on the phone, or otherwise distracted at any time. Dunno what percentage of carriers are doing this, but it's pretty common around here now. |

I don't need a CDL. I earn my living by being so awesome. Driving is just what I do to relieve boredom. Either way, I hope Tracy Morgan pulls through. He's a funny guy with great delivery. |

I worked as a recruiter for Class A CDL drivers. This guy will not only lose his job, he will have a difficult time finding ANY company to hire him in the future. There are many restrictions in my state in reference to CDL drivers. This guy's career has ended.
