One of the problems is that most people who purchase a gun for home defense don't even shoot one ammo box, in fact some gun owners buy the firearm and one box of ammo, load the gun and store it inside a cabinet drawer alongside the remaining rounds, and it stays there FOR DECADES "in case it is needed".

Having a gun does not make anyone capable to successfuly "defend themselves".

Few people understand that constant practice is needed to be able to win in a shootout, and not just shooting but also unholstering practice and some tactical knowledge, especially in the case of going against a home intruder.

Furthermore becoming your neighborhood "Bob Munden" will not be enough if the decisiveness to shoot to kill is not fully ingrained in your mind, hesitation will get you killed no matter how well trained you might be.
