That sucks.. He's lucky the major blood vessels were missed.. Im sure that there are lots of ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist available in his country of Syria to fix that gaping hole immediately...

Why are people saying he's got no chance.. all it takes is a pipe to his larynx and trachea to ensure he can breathe ok, his Pharynx is certainly blown out. Look's like air is getting to his lungs regardless though because of how open the wound is. The only issue would be closing the wound and ensuring he does not bleed out or choke/flood his lungs with his own blood. This is definitely a survivable injury though. Providing he is treated relatively soon. Other issues he would face in the future however, would be infection, eating, liquids and draining. Which may not be possible given the current Syrian situation.
