Re: Suicide by Cop | Police Kill Knife Wielding Man
I am a cop and I can say that the cops here did well in not approaching the suspect with a knife in his hand; cops are not taught to go hands on with someone who is carrying a deadly weapon. You point your gun at them until they drop the weapon. If you have backup officers, one officer can deploy a Taser or other less-lethal weapons available as long as there is an officer covering you with lethal force. If that doesn't work, you can keep attempting to deescalate the situation with guns drawn. However, if someone squares up with a knife and starts approaching officers or civilians, that person is going to get met with lethal force.

"That's it! You're under arrest buddy!" What a fucking stupid cop. They really didn't have to light him up like that. The man was moving at a snails pace. A wing shot would have been incredibly easy.

Re: Suicide by Cop | Police Kill Knife Wielding Man
Real life LEO's don't face off in the street in a "fair contest" with equal or lesser weapons like some kind of hollywood actor who is going to win simply because the audience demands it. Perhaps it would have been more brave of them to go all Jackie Chan on the guy with their ASP batons but the smart move was to just kill the guy and be done with it and that is what they did. All American officers are trained to use their firearms as lethal weapons not for warning shots and not for "barely" wounding someone. Generally speaking US courts always consider a firearm to be a LETHAL weapon and using it incorrectly can cast considerable doubt on your claims that you needed to use lethal force in the first place. Also if they did capture the guy alive what benefit would that be to anyone? Is it really kinder to drug him up and throw him in a padded cell until he finally dies of old age? |
