Actually, that's a good idea. Save them, but then put them in suspended copper baskets in the middle of town square, and then just wait for nature to finish them off.
Maybe even, if we heard of a storm brewing that could bring with it the electrical relief of lightning, we could feed them and give them polysporin until it arrived. But at the first sound of thunder, they're cut off.
