As a pilot, I can tell you that once you're above 100'-ish, if there is no reference of taller objects/buildings, it is very hard to judge how high up you are.

Standing on the top of a building, I am very terrified of the heights.

Opening the door of my Cessna and looking straight down--no sense of height nor "stomach wrenching fear of heights".

If she was an adrenaline junkie, it could easily look like a "oh hey his is just like a cliff dive!".

Now, on the other hand, she could have been simply retarded.
