It has always astounded me that people, especially in the ‘rehabilitation’ community are even still discussing this point. The court and ‘punishment’ system are designed to rehabilitate people. There IS NO fixing who you are attracted to!!!

Anecdotally, I worked in the field of child predator investigations for many years and had the opportunity to arrest several people repeatedly. Although, not always for the same offense.

It's mostly the younger men who engage in recidivist behavior. But they tend to alter their M.O. and victims after release. Usually, instead of preying on children physically they move to cultivating child pornography, conversing with children online, and following kids at parks, malls and beaches for grooming and photos to satisfy their prurient needs, believing that these are harmless alternatives.

If someone is related to the molester, or had some kind of prior relationship then it adds to that life long trauma.

You should be sure to check the cumulative vs non cumulative rates of re-offending. The two are often confused.

Dr Karl Hanson, one of the creators of risk assessment tools for sex offenders has clearly stated they have some of the lowest offence rates of all criminal types, and after about 10-15 years offence free are no more likely to offend than anyone else.



The whole hate on a particular subset of criminals is completely unhelpful for society. It wastes resources on revenge rather than prevention, can take peoples attention away from other issues which could further reduce such offences, and allows low rate politicians to influence the simple minded via emotional diatribes and misinformed opinions.
