His mate had the right idea at least, trying to attack from a low, long fighting stance, as a few inches of reach advantage (which he appears to have) could have neutralized the threat. But then comes Mr. Big with his arms down and chest out, probably thought he could intimidate his way up close then maybe headbutt or wrestle the knifeman. Too much ego and testosterone, combined with a lack of frontal lobe activity in his brain cost him his life.

Although we are allowed to be armed in the US, I doubt self defense would hold up in the US. The man who died was moving toward the man who had the knife. I think you can only respond with deadly force if someone advancing on you poses an imminent threat (gun/knife/other weapon) I didn't see any of that.
