This comment made me laugh so hard I nearly passed out. Then I got hiccups which are worse than drowning.

Well, upon further viewings of the video, I think they seem to know that the whirlpool was there in the first place.They seem to swim around and near it as a kind of dare.

Granted, maybe the boy wasn't a terrific swimmer. You see him try to grab the edge of the rock but something causes him to lose his grip and get moved to the area of the "whirlpool" in my opinion.

The kid can't swim it's that simple, when he initially dives in the water he makes sure he makes it to the other side in one go, he then loses his grip on the rock and knows he either tries to swim or he drowns, seeing as he can't swim he drowned.

As for the other kid, it does look like he tried to reach out his hand by swimming over to the other side and extending his arm. It would have actually been stupid if the other kid stayed in the same spot as the kid that got pulled under. In that situation, we would have been talking about two victims instead of just one.

I have a feeling when he dived he breathed in some water and started struggling drom there, i noticed he tried holding onto the rock before his half effort crossing back over. Seems like he was already in trouble.

There’s no “whirlpool”. He panicked. Once that happens it’s over.... quicker in fresh water as you’re less bouyant than you’d be in salt water. It’s actually very hard for a person to sink in salt water if they relax. Panic and steady as she sinks. Even easier in fresh water as outlined.
