Re: Indian Labourer Decapitated After Coming Into Contact With High-Voltage Line

This is exactly how we should be putting convicted persons to death. Regardless of the crime |

Re: Indian Labourer Decapitated After Coming Into Contact With High-Voltage Line
Don't know where you are but in the UK, no we don't have them in cities and urban areas, but in rural areas you see them everywhere suspended from wooden poles that look like a bit like the old school telephone lines, also 11,000 volts or 33kV and yes they are exposed, they aren't bare but have a weatherproofing coat which is nowhere near thick enough to insulate them. If you fly a kite under one of these you're fucked. If they come down on top of you in a storm you're fucked.

Re: Indian Labourer Decapitated After Coming Into Contact With High-Voltage Line
Yes the wires remain bare and in residential areas but are always inaccessible. They will not be reachable from a roof. Bare wires are normally much higher up on a high tension tower, or else in an area surrounded by barb wire fence. Also, the wire that runs from the hydro poles to buildings is always insulated with rubber jacket and in new areas its actually run 24" underground rather than overhead but thats more for the aesthetics.

Re: Indian Labourer Decapitated After Coming Into Contact With High-Voltage Line
Are you sure they are insulated and not just coated with weatherproofing ? It costs an absolute fortune to insulate high voltage transmission lines and it degrades really fast from UV and heat, and it weighs the cables down. Even in the UK it has never been an option to do that, it's just economically and practically not viable.
