If I remember that story, on the ice that night was the trainer for one of them teams. It so happens he was a combat vet medic. I might be wrong.

Refs should check sticks and studs before every game but often don't. I used to do loads of shit like slacken the mesh off after the check (loads of people do that anyway) and my shoulder pads were illegal, but I draw the line at sharpening studs, fucking hell you might as well take a shank onto the pitch if that's how you want to play..
