Re: Goalkeeper Dies While Celebrating Saving a Penalty
Another person who has no clue what a defibrillator is, why and under what circumstances it is indicated, and gets all his/her medical knowledge from reruns of House and ER.

Well if it was Commotio Cordis from the ball hit than yes a defibrillator would save him with a 70-90% chance. Don't talk shit when you yourself seem pretty ignorant. |

If he was in cardiac arrest for some reason, then maybe, it would definitely be worth a try. If it was cardiomyopathy I would say no. It's instant death, basically. You don't actually have to be trained to use one. You stick the pads on where it tells you, then it assesses the heart, and tells you when to shock if you need to. |

AGREED! I think your idea is great! You SHOULD totally stop your heart (something creative, please) to show us exactly why a defibberlater should be used... don't even hafta have one to bring you back, I've watched enough 'Grey's Anatomy' to know how a difebberlater works...

Re: Goalkeeper Dies While Celebrating Saving a Penalty
You see "chest hits ball, patient collapses," and you Google that and wow, commotio cordis! This is why you're not a doctor. You have to know what not to look for as well as what to look for. To whit, the young man's symptoms are consistent with inter-atrial myocardial rupture, which is associated with an underlying congenital condition exacerbated by sudden stress. His heart burst and he went plotz. Not a damn thing a defibrillator could do. A patient with the condition you got from WebMD collapses more slowly, and is generally conscious with intense pain for up to 4 minutes before the AV node is fried and it's over. Writhing and screaming is common. Now leave WebMD alone, kid. |
