They should have used the walrus as the goalie. Did you know that you could save 15% on your car insurance by switching to Geico?

Re: Goalkeeper Dies While Celebrating Saving a Penalty

Take it from me, that there had little to do with the velocity of the kick.

It was a 'substantial blow' - Yaaas it was ... BUT...

This young man had internal 'Cardiac' issues.

That wouldn't have killed him. That's just a 'no no,' not credible.

I just hope someone stands up to defend him in court.
Stands up to defend who? The guy who kicked the fatal shot? Or the victim?
Highly doubt deaths like these are blamed on the other player who hit the ball.

Re: Goalkeeper Dies While Celebrating Saving a Penalty

I would imagine some sort of cardiomyopathy at his age.

You could tell he was not feeling right as he walked back to the goal posts, even before the penalty kick.

Damn shame.
If they had one of those...idk what they are called...defibrillators on the field, with an EMT or someone who knows how to use one, could that have saved him?

Re: Goalkeeper Dies While Celebrating Saving a Penalty

I'm not convinced an ambulance would have saved him. They have got approximately 3 to 4 minutes to restore normal blood flow to his brain before permanent damage starts to occur.
More often than not, the outcome is tragic in these situations, with or without an ambulance.

Re: Goalkeeper Dies While Celebrating Saving a Penalty

Copy & pasted but I'm tired

Commotio cordis (Latin, "agitation of the heart") is an often lethal disruption of heart rhythm that occurs as a result of a blow to the area directly over the heart (the precordial region), at a critical time during the cycle of a heart beat causing cardiac arrest. It is a form of ventricular fibrillation (V-Fib), not mechanical damage to the heart muscle or surrounding organs, and not the result of heart disease. The fatality rate is about 65% even with prompt CPR and defibrillation, and more than 80% without.[1][2]

There's definitely something physically wrong with the goalie. The only person that should be at blame here is either his doctor who cleared him to compete or himself.

Fairly uncommon, but certainly not unheard of.
