Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
The way it’s described you think the taser had no effect but I think it did. While he walked towards the officer holding the bat he was no longer holding it up in a threatening manner and he was bent over as if winded or injured. It’s also worth noting that he walked or more accurately staggered toward the officer but tending very much to the side, and the officer was blocking the exit. It’s reasonable to say that the man was trying to leave the building more than trying to assault an officer. This has made me think that officers should be trained to be aware of exits as wounded people with diminished ability to reason may instinctively and somewhat blindly move towards what they perceive as safety or freedom. I think there was scope for deescalation in this situation but the officers were stressed by one officer being outside and one inside. I also think one officer advanced too close to the man with the bat. I think it should be acknowledged that a bat is not realistically capable of lethality in the way that a firearm is. |

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
Tasers have been proven to be ineffective time after time. What these cops need is bear spray. Ain't no one gonna fight back after a squirt of that. Or a combo bear spray & cattle prod. Spray to get him down, prod to secure him.
