"Accident? What accident, officer? I figured I just hit another pot hole. You know how shitty the roads are around here!" Case dismissed. |

Re: Fatal Hit and Run Pick-up Truck with Woman on Bicycle
It's obvious that it was an accident, no blame on truck driver, but to not stop and see if he could render help or call for help. That's cold. That right there would push me to track, find, and punish the driver myself if say...she were my daughter, wife, sister, or mom.

Re: Fatal Hit and Run Pick-up Truck with Woman on Bicycle
Seeing as road traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in Ecuador, I would say the blame lies squarely with the Government, in my opinion. Cyclists should not use a pedestrian crossing at all. But seeing as many pedestriants have been killed, and general rules ignored by pedestrians and vehicle drivers, I think it's high time that there should be a change in the rules. We have pedestrian crossings in England at intersections, but only with traffic lights that tell you when it is safe to cross and keep the cars back. Cyclists have to dismount before crossing and push the bike. (Not that every cyclist complies with that.) I have to say, seeing a loved one killed so traumatically will stay with the mother forever. When my dad, died I could not even stand and had to be held up. It's something you never forget. Those emotions flood back even with the mental thought. |
