LOUISVILLE, Ky.
The Jefferson County Coroner has released the name of a man who died after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Louisville.

Officials said J, S, 44, of Louisville, was shot by an officer Monday while he was struggling with another officer.

Police said it all started when an off-duty officer from the Heritage Creek Police Department had an encounter at Dosker Manor with J.S. They said he was acting disorderly and was reportedly armed.

"Security at Dosker Manor had been having issues over the past week regarding a subject who was threatening residents, using disparaging remarks and was reported to have displayed a handgun in a threatening manner," Public Integrity Unit Lt. Tim Eidmen said.

The off-duty officer called for back-up after learning he also had a bench warrant.

He took off on foot and was stopped by a University of Louisville officer in the 200 block of East Gray Street, near the hospital section downtown.

LMPD First Division Officer Michael Johnson arrived on scene to assist. According to Chief Steve Conrad, Johnson joined the department in June of 2008.

LMPD released Officer Johnson's body camera footage Tuesday afternoon. It shows the subject ignoring Officer Johnson's orders to get on the ground before a shot was fired.

"Officer Johnson had his weapon drawn and ordered the suspect to stop, but he was uncooperative. The UofL officer grabbed the suspect and attempted to gain control.

Officer Johnson began to holster his weapon and help to physically control the suspect. He reached for his waistband and began to pull out his handgun. Officer Johnson redrew his weapon and fired one shot striking the suspect," Eidmen said.

Well I totally agree he told him he was going to shoot him before it happened, but did he really need to pull his pistol instead of his taser? I mean if he would have tased the guy right when he came around the corner It would’ve been over with. Cops in this country are so trigger-happy. Then again motherfucker should’ve listen. If someone is telling me to get on the ground especially A cop and they got their gun drawn I’m doing it.

Fight with two cops, lose big right away. No sympathy. Thank you, officers, for cleaning the shit off our streets. But whatever happened to the old nightstick? One or two good whacks upside the head right at the beginning. Not to second-guess, Monday-morning quarterback, armchair general, but a skull fracture is less lethal than a .45 hollowpoint.

I always stick up for police BUT this asshole cop wanted to shoot this guy the second he pulled out his gun and was just waiting for a excuse to fire. Not only was it unnecessary but he could have killed his partner.
