Most people aren't skilled assassins, ninja's, snipers, or military trained marksmen in the least bit. So when I see an average looking civilian draw a weapon from underneath their clothing, the police should be aiming for the suspect's hands, legs, or arms to disable the person from firing that alleged weapon. Or at the very least cause them to drop the weapon... Not necessarily take that person's life.

The shooting comes at a time of increased scrutiny over police violence in the United States following several high-profile police killings of unarmed black men over the past year.

The department said in a brief statement that its Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust would investigate the shooting, which took place on Wednesday in Wilmington, the state’s largest city, according to officials, local media, and a video purporting to show the incident

The Wilmington Police Department could not be reached on Thursday to provide details or comment, but was quoted in the local News Journal newspaper as saying that officers responded to the area after a caller reported that a man in a wheelchair had shot himself.

Sergeant Andrea Janvier said the man, identified by family as 28-year-old Jeremy McDole, was armed with a handgun when police arrived, according to the newspaper.

In a cell phone video uploaded to YouTube that purports to show the incident, an officer with a long gun drawn yells at the man to raise his hands and “drop the gun.” Suddenly, a shot rings out. The officer then appears to pump his weapon, which expels a cartridge.

The video shows two more officers with handguns drawn arriving and yelling at the man, who appears to be bleeding, to put up his hands. The three officers move toward him. The man uses his arms to adjust himself in the wheelchair several times before he appears to reach toward his pants’ front pocket and the officers open fire.

The man’s hands appear empty throughout the video.

“The mayor’s office and police department are aware of the video and continue to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the officer-involved shooting,” said Alexandra Coppadge, spokeswoman for Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams.

Family and friends of McDole, who gathered at the scene after the killing and again on Thursday morning, said he never owned a gun and questioned the police account that he was armed and shot himself, according to the News Journal.

“We want justice for my brother,” Ashley Morrison-Wright told the newspaper. “This isn’t right.”

“He was a very, very sweet man,” she added.

Does is seriously need to be explained or are you all just going to go on another one of your cop bashing rants until some mother fucker is randomly sniping your people in the streets. then the contradictions flows you say., where the fuck were the cops. Hindsight is a wonderful thing morons! Unfortunately just because you wear a badge, doesnt mean your automatically instilled with a hindsight of probabilities that mat eventuate. So what do you cop bashing dumb asses suggest as an alternative rather than greasing your ignorant perceptions all over the integrity of the police. Maybe shoot out his wheels? and give him the opportunity to fire off a few shots. Or maybe retaliate with a smaller calibre fire arm to give him a fighting chance. Maybe do a back ground, welfare, mental health and drug check, see if he has a wife and kids before they even get into a gun fight with a culprit. and if he does, then just give him the freedom to open fire as he sees fit, because it would be unfair if we were to leave his children fatherless or shoot a mental guy regardless of the consequences his threat poses on the rest of the public. Or Maybe you insecure monkeys should simply swallow your own criminal minded thought process towards your law enforcement and take a little accountability by directing your animosity towards the culprit that put him self, the general public and the police in that position to begin with. Its this thought process from a lot of you Americans that is causing the rest of the world to question your integrity and mental reasoning to be such a domineering world power to begin with.

Imbecilic ideology, in hindsight hats the trajectory or calibre of the round, could a stray round hit a member of the public? clearly people are close enough to film it so whats the possibility that he could squeeze off a few extra rounds that just might happen to stray into a neighbouring school yard?

If an offender who initiates an act of violence creates a probability of risk, why should the public be placed in danger for any longer than necessary to benefit the offender.
