Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.
One minute he’s enjoying a ride in his new vehicle next he’s dead. Truly sucks because it just seemed to be driver error.

It's what makes them cool and not cool. Unlike most cars that have many pieces of sheet metal spot welded together to make the body, and plastic bumpers bolted on. Vettes are large molded bodies. Which gives it that clean look without seems because the bumpers are part of the body. The pillars are part of the body. And it's super lightweight. And it can be use as peanut brittle during the holidays. |

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.
Rubber is rubber, it doesn't matter how thin it is. It will puncture much more easily. And it won't have any control on wet surfaces, or sand or dirt roads. It's risky to drive on bald tires for those reasons. Especially having a blowout from a puncture or just thin rubber overheating. But if it never rained, and our road were always clean. Everyone would be driving with bald tires. It matters how bald your tires are. And it matters the type and quality of the tires. With economy tires, you're probably correct, they are likely much worse bald. But a ultra high performance tire is a different story. The tread depth is very low to begin with. And the compound is specific for maximum grip and larger contact. Which is what you'd likely have on a Corvette. |

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.
Don't think this is entirely accurate... Compound, tire structure/design, and of course heat cycles all factor in for most performance tires (including slicks). At some point that super soft compound loses it's elasticity and grip, not matter the amount of remaining tread or tread pattern. I've tracked my dailies, weekend warrior style, for a few years now and can definitely tell when the tires are cycled out. Daily driving probably affects the consistency of heat cycles as well on the r-compound tires I'm currently driving on. But again, doubt that accident had anything to do with tires, and all to do with turned off nannies, gobs of torque, and stupidity. And heads-up, the C7Z is made up of SMC & select carbon fiber panels (+urethane bumper covers), bolted and or bonded to an aluminum chassis. SMC is a bit lighter and stronger than old school fiberglass but more brittle, which should explain the explosion of fragments. Traditional fiberglass Vettes went away sometime during the 3rd gen production, late 60's or early 70's maybe. |

Me too I’m glad he died instead of just being disabled so somebody else had to take care of him we have got to get over this toxic masculinity where we admire men for going really really fast for no reason

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.
Smc is basically fiberglass. I know especially on newer vettes they'll say it smc plastic. But I've seen it broken apart, held it in my hand. It's basically fiberglass no matter what they call it. Even smells and will make you itch like normal fiberglass. As far as tires. I go back to what kind of tires you have. If a person not familiar sees a car with ultra high performance tires on. They may think these tires are worn out, they're practically bald. But that's the Way they are. Many have little to no tread on the outer tire, and minimal tread on the inside. And the tread depth isn't much. |

Clearly you’ve never driven a rear wheel drive car with any power. Were you just making this up as you went along?
