Well, I'm sure your slicks will hook better on a public street than they would at the drag strip for a myriad of reasons.
Since I have 3 Vette's, 1 on drag radials (Nitto NT05R 305/19), 1 on road race tires (Proxxes R888R, 345/19) and another on slicks (Hoosier Drag Bracket Pro 28x9). Plus I road raced street bikes for decades (road the street on race tires 100%, with over 100,000 miles of street riding alone). I feel I'm plenty qualified to comment.

There are roads made from asphalt and concrete. There are drag strips and road courses made from asphalt and concrete. What is the difference? You think the tire knows?

Tread serves one purpose (on the street/track); pumping water and griping ice (for studded tires).

Name one, "full race", road tire, that has tread besides a rain tire. Name me one rain tire that is slick. The hybrids have tread for water only, that's it!

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

Seems very few peeps here understand what, "crumple zones" are.
and you are one of them

a crumple zone is there to allow the outer extremities of the vehicle to crumple in a controlled fashion "up to" the passenger compartment. this is so the passengers can have a chance of escaping any impact in one piece because they do not take the full force of the initial impact

a crumple zone is not something that allows the vehicle to totally disintegrate on impact as this piece of shit did

perhaps you have crumple zone envy, since the competitors of the corvette "do" have them

Clearly YOU are the one who is misinformed. Corvettes have full frames, and crumple zones like all other DOT legal vehicles sold in the USA. This guy only died because he was unrestrained...

yep, the crumple zone worked perfectly there didn't it

clearly i touched a nerve, but that is easy with corvette owners - they play banjo's and marry their sisters

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

in dry weather, unless the tyres are worn down to the canvas, bald tyres are better than brand new ones

the only reason tyres have tread (and therefore less surface area) is to dissipate standing water on the road, which in turn means the tyre is directly on the road, and not water

without tread, they have more surface area and therefore more grip - hence why racing cars use slick tyres

it is hard to tell from the video, but it almost looks like only one wheel was spinning which is surprising . . . still a dick move even if it was mechanical, but the lack on tread on the tyres would not have caused the accident
Tire compound is different on slicks or drag radials. Stop spreading dumb information. My mickey Thompson et streets hook up better than a bald street tire with a stiffer compound.

Regular street tires with tread will always have better traction than the same tire with no tread. Seriously how fucking dumb does one have to be to not see the common sense there. There's a reason you'll get cited for driving with bald tires. It's because they're fucking dangerous.

Seriously how fucking dumb does one have to be to post virtually the same bullshit reply that so many other heroes have already done
and by the way - bald tyres are cited because when it rains they "are" fucking dangerous

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

Only explanation is that he was driving with sparetire or different rear tires. Maybe tires were more than ten years.

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

Bald tires is completely irrelevant.

Any half decent fucking driver could have handled that situation.

The principles of physics is what you limit your control to, whether it's raining, snowing, icing, or you have bald tires. If you want to, you can even feel when a car is about to lose grip and modify your driving to compensate.
