Colorado Cop Shoots and Kills Man After Attempted Traffic Stop
On August 30, 2025, at around 7:30 p.m., an Aurora police officer attempted a traffic stop near Interstate 225 and 6th Avenue for an unspecified violation. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Rajon B.-S, continued driving, rear-ending one eastbound car on East Sixth Avenue near Sable Boulevard and then crossing the median to collide with a westbound vehicle. After crashing, he exited his car and walked toward the officer in an aggressive posture, reportedly shouting for others to confront the officer. A handgun was present at the scene, and police stated he appeared to be moving toward it, though a witness claimed he was unarmed with no visible weapon. The officer, working alone, fired one to three rounds, fatally striking him, who was pronounced dead by firefighters at the scene. Witnesses reported a 90-second to two-minute engagement before shots were fired, with some noting the suspect briefly walked away from the officer. No injuries were reported to others in the crashed vehicles. The officer was placed on paid administrative leave, and the 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team is investigating, alongside an Aurora Police internal review. Bodycam, Flock traffic cameras, and potential bystander footage are under review, but no video has been released as of August 31, 2025. Community activists, including Councilmember Coombs, demanded transparency and immediate bodycam release, citing concerns over the officer’s actions and lack of aid rendered to Belt-Stubblefield. |
