Ha! I've had these on my fingers and feet since I was quite young and have endured loads of scrapings and swabs over the years with nothing from the docs other than 'it must be eczema'.

Must send the info to my Mum and Sis as they both get them too!

Apparently nickel messes you up too, with it. That's what I read somewhere. Keep away from nickel rings and junk when you have it. Water hurts too. :( Makes me sad.

I get this as well, on my fingers, palms of my hands, toes, soles and sides of my feet. It itches like a bitch and steriod creams don't help although soaking your hands/feet in potassium permanganate can help a little (but it does stain the skin a little). It's a type of excema. Mine gets worse if I'm under stress. Next time I have a flare up I'll post some pics.

That said, I have experience with this nastiness. According to wikipedia it's "dishydrosis" (or "dishydrotic eczema", as it was initially thought to have something to do with a malfunction of the body's sweat system, though that has subsequently been determined probably untrue): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyshidrosis

Anyhow, though...sadly I have no photos, but I do have a horrible story to tell, so here goes.

In 2002, right after graduating college, my boyfriend and I had to move out of our student apartment in a hurry. Somehow during the hardcore cleaning process this entailed I got exposed to like...the mother lode of dust-mite colonies. The dishydrosis started with a small cluster of bumps on one hand. I had no idea what it was initially...all I knew was that it itched like a mofo. I slapped some cortisone ointment on it but that didn't help at all. By the next day the bumps had spread all over my hand. Then the other hand started itching. And then my FEET started itching.

Within a matter of days, both hands and both feet were basically covered with fluid-filled vesicles. Initially the vesicles were tiny and separate from one another, but on the areas covered by the thickest skin (big toes, thumbs, etc.) the blisters would tend to sort of merge into one enormous and frightfully itchy bubble.

I was terrified that the rash was going to spread all over my entire body. If that had occurred I'd definitely have gone to the ER. But luckily, it mostly stayed confined to hands and feet (with only a few bumps going up the wrists and ankles). The feet were the worst. The entire bottom of my right foot was one big blister. I felt the skin layers separating as the blister grew, and even though I attempted to drain it several times, for about a week it was as if my body was just perpetually dumping fluid into that area.

Whenever I walked it went "squish", and despite layers of gauze, I essentially destroyed a pair of shoes due to all the leakage. My right big toenail ended up growing blisters UNDERNEATH one side, and to this day (over a decade later) that nail still grows weirdly, like it's got a crease in it or something. But I digress.

While all this was going on I itched like I had never itched before in my life. It was unreal. I thought I was going to go insane. I barely slept for close to a week, and one night desperation took 5 Benardryl tablets at once. This did absolutely nothing: no itch relief and no sedation effect. I just had to tough it out, which entailed maybe a week and a half of being able to do nothing but itch, wander around aimlessly, mop up oozing blister fluid, and itch some more.

The itching mercifully went away once the drying began but my hands and feet looked NASTY for weeks afterward. My brother described my hands as looking like "the texture of oatmeal". I had a job interview during the Time of the Oatmeal Hands. I did not get the job. :P

...but in any event, I now very occasionally get a few of those little bumps, but only if I do something like wear rubber gloves in hot weather or walk barefoot on a dusty surface. I have *never* since had a full-scale attack like I did in 2002, thank goodness.

I have that! I don't really take anything for them, because I haven't seen a doctor to diagnose me for this. I sort of ignore it. Mine aren't really that bad, and I've always written them off as being Psorosis or something like that. Yea, I know I didn't spell Psoarosis right, and I don't care.

I guess this is THE super-old thread to make comments on.

This looks a LOT like the little "blisters" I get on my hands (and occasionally my feet). I always assumed it was palmar pustular psoriasis since I get regular scaly-patch psoriasis elsewhere. The blisters sometimes cluster, and if I pop them or leave them to dry out they can turn into a what looks like "regular" psoriasis with thick flaky skin. It usually heals up fairly quickly though, unlike patches elsewhere which tend to linger.

I've never had any itching or irritation though. I get compelled to pop them which results in a some painful raw/peeling areas, but the bubbles themselves never bothered me.

I'm curious now though as to what fairly-gross bubbly hand skin condition I have (or how one would tell the difference).

how about your nostrils? are you just hating them?
