Re: Young Filipino Woman Shot in Head During Robbery Attempt

it isn't really the right place for laughing, but listening to tagalog is funny to a westerner

the way they swap from tagalog to english and back again without breaking stride is very impressive
most working class here, are used to using Taglish (Tagalog-English) in conversations even among us only. many find it easier to express or explain something using english words than Tagalog. One example is "Can i help you?" which in tagalog means "May maitutulong ba ako sa iyo?" ... too long so most revert to english when using otherwise will be longer.

It just sounds funny because you are not used to it. The Romans called the non-GrecoRoman Germanic tribes "barbarians" because they were not used to the sound of their language, which to them sounded like "bar bar bar".

i am used to it, i hear it every day :)

my amusement is because they go from a filipino accent speaking tagalog, to an almost american accent for english

no doubt true :)

this is probably backing up what you say, but my understanding is there are some words that there is not a direct translation for; "soda" for instance

and from the other side, either "mga" or "ng" don't seem to translate to anything in particular in english

Soda is not exactly used widely here. we call them all carbonated drinks as softdrinks. "Mga" is generally used to describe or point out something plural, "Ng" can sometimes be loosely translated as "by". Like "Pinatay ng Palakol" meaning Killed(Pinatay) by(ng) Axe(Palakol), but mostly it disappears from the sentence when translated to English. Like "kumuha ng litrato" meaning "Took(kumuha) Pictures(litrato)"...

Re: Young Filipino Woman Shot in Head During Robbery Attempt

Original Filipinos are called aetas and they speak something sounding like gibberish which 99% of the filipinos today do not understand. i dont too. Filipinos today are mix of chinese, malay, japan, spanish, american, english, and a lot more blood than i can keep track of during history lessons. and we also got most of their words into our own. We got conquered a lot during the old days. Philippines have a lot of islands and you will mostly find every island have their own language dialect while using the Philippine universal language as tagalog. to be more conversant wherever we go in these islands, we mostly study English language and we get along with that...

Re: Young Filipino Woman Shot in Head During Robbery Attempt

This is just a reupload from the other site as ImageBam and/or Imgbox will be gone for good.

Here's the translation of the news clip:
"SPD, DAID-SOTG arrested the suspect named Bryan Gustilo, 38, at Zero Block, West Rambo, Makati City who robbed and shot the victim named Rhem Pedrano, 31, casino roller at Sofitel Hotel while going to work.
