The Shocker's Mix 20
Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational. - - - Case 1 Fig1.1 This individual died after getting hit by a train. Fig1.2 The neck. This individual died after getting hit by a train, no further info. Railroad deaths in the US totaled 757 in 2020, a decrease of more than 12% from the 2019 revised total of 862 and the lowest since 2015. Nonfatal injuries totaled 5,479, a 33% decrease from the 2019 revised total of 7,983. From 2019 to 2020, fatalities at highway-rail crossings decreased 32%, while fatalities involving other types of incidents decreased 1%. The latter included 529 deaths (94%) attributed to trespassers. Ten employees were killed while on duty, a 25% increase compared to the 2019 death toll. There were two train passenger deaths, up from one death in 2019. - - - Case 2 Fig2.1 Man cut by train. This individual was killed when hit by a train, no further info. - - - Case 3 Fig3.1 Intraoral shotgun wound. Occasionally, people shooting themselves in the mouth tilt their heads too far back- ward before firing. This results in their shooting off their faces and sometimes the frontal lobes. In such instances, death may not be immediate. Some individuals survive weeks with such wounds. One individual who shot off his face survived a number of months in a vegetative state only to die from meningitis due to an intracranial abscess that formed about a tooth driven into the occipital lobe of the brain. - - - Case 4 Fig4.1 Woman killed by train. This woman was hit by a train and killed, no further info. In 2020, 1.331 significant railway accidents were reported in the EU. A total of 687 persons were killed in these accidents, while another 468 persons were seriously injured. At EU level, the number of fatalities in railway accidents decreased gradually over the last decade, from 1.245 in 2010 to 687 in 2020, a fall by 45 %. Suicides occurring on railways are reported separately. With 2.204 reported cases in 2020, suicides outnumber the victims accounted for by railway accidents. - - - Case 5 Fig5.1 Contact wound under the chin from a 12 gauge shotgun. Tangential wound of the face with only a few pellets entering the cranial cavity. Fig5.2 Face flap repositioned. This individual shot himself under the chin from a 12 gauge shotgun and walked 10–15 ft to his truck and got in and later died. Most of the injury was to the soft tissue of the face with only a few pellets entering the cranial cavity. Face flap reposition was performed. An apparent devastating wound of the head does not necessarily indicate immediate immobilization. Despite the extreme amount of facial destruction, careful and meticulous reapproximation of the face, and tears allows for the demonstration and confirmation of the entrance wound. Reconstruction of the wound can be very important to determine particular wound characteristics. - - - Case 6 Fig6.1 Contact wound of the chest from a 12 gauge shotgun. Fig6.2 The wound. This individual has a contact wound of the chest from a 12 gauge shotgun with apparent petal marks around the wound. The deceased was a 22-year-old female who shot herself in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun. The wound showed what appeared to be petal marks surrounding the entrance. This was not consistent with the wound being contact in nature, thus calling into question the ruling of suicide. Examination of the clothing revealed the marks were in fact due to the material of the bra she was wearing. This illustrates the importance of correlating the wound with the clothing. - - - Case 7 Fig7.1 Three radiating petals from the entrance wound under the jaw. Muzzle brake on a 12 gauge shotgun. The figure shows three radiating petals from the entrance wound under the jaw of a victim of suicide from muzzle brake on a 12 gauge shotgun. On occasion, one will encounter a shotgun with a muzzle brake/compensator. Contact wounds with this device result in a petal pattern similar to that seen in rifles with muzzle brakes or flash suppressors. The general public is buying increasing numbers of military-style shotguns, some of which are equipped with muzzle brakes. - - - Case 8 Fig8.1 Extreme amount of cranial destruction. Head injuries from shotguns and high-powered rifles are typically quite devastating, often with extensive soft tissue destruction, skull fractures, and pulpifaction of the brain. Occasionally, the brain is largely expelled from the cranial vault and may be found near the body. This young man committed suicide by inflicting a contact shotgun-type injury with a round of buckshot loaded into a “bangstick”. A bangstick is a weapon that can be used in hunting alligators or protecting oneself from sharks. When the pipe-like end of the metal bangstick is rapidly thrust against a surface, it fires a single round. At the scene, note the severe cranial injuries and surrounding environmental blood and tissue staining. Also, note that although there was extensive trauma and immediate incapacitation, the weapon stayed grasped in the victim’s hands. - - - Part 1 --- Part 2 --- Part 3 --- Part 4 --- Part 5 --- Part 6 --- Part 7 --- Part 8 --- Part 9 --- Part 10 --- Part 11 --- Part 12 --- Part 13 --- Part 14 --- Part 15 --- Part 16 --- Part 17 --- Part 18--- Part 19 - This post is for educational purposes only and is nonprofit.
