Re: Man Skinned Alive
Yes, indeed. The doctors didn't think he'd make it more than a couple of weeks. The first attached image is Hisashi Ouchi before the accident. The second image shows the progression of radiation sickness in his colleague, Masato Shinohara. Masato received a lower, but still fatal exposure of 10 sieverts/1000 rems of gamma/neutron radiation. He survived until 4/27/2000. His inability to regenerate skin due to the DNA destruction was a contributing factor in his death. The third picture shows "normal" DNA. The last picture shows what Hisashi Ouchi's DNA looked like after the accident. |

Re: Man Skinned Alive
I did some more research, and this may not be Hisashi Ouchi. I read the book on him entitled "A Slow Death: 83 Days Of Radiation Sickness," and it clearly states that there was skin on the underside of his body when he died, a clear gradient towards having more skin the further back you got because the frontside of his body had been exposed to radiation. We don't see this individual's back, but we do see the underside of his legs and they have no skin. Furthermore, part of this individual's right leg appears to have been amputated. The book made no mention of a partial leg amputation. Doctors floated the possibility of amputating his arm, but it was never done because it was thought the amputation scar wouldn't heal. The book also provides a photo of the medical room Ouchi was in, and it looks dissimilar-- white not blue. Last but not least, there was gauze covering Ouchi's entire body, including his face, up until the time he died. This photo does pop up when one Google image searches "Tokaimura" or "Hisashi Ouchi." It could be a post-mortem photo of Ouchi moved to a different room with some type of debridement performed on the legs for autopsy purposes. Or it could be the other victim of the incident, Masato Shinohara. But I find it more likely it's a photo of a different person which has been misattributed to Ouchi/Tokaimura. Someone should try contacting the physicians who tended to Ouchi to see if it's really him. Re: Man Skinned Alive
17 sieverts of gamme/neutron radiation is mindblowing; Im amazed he didnt die in the first few days; must have been a tough cookie; even though exposure would have been very very brief its a mindboggling amount of radiation, unbelievable.
