A 26 year old man from Cincinnati, Ohio died on September 2, 2015 as a result of a heroin overdose. This is the most well known social media post involving a heroin overdose death and has been shared over 300,000 times on Facebook.

A 22 year old woman from Denver, Colorado died on October 26, 2012 as a result of a heroin overdose.

A brother, 31, comforts his younger sister, 24, as she is overwhelmed at the sight of their baby sister, in a casket during her final viewing in Lakewood, Colorado. After completing all her drug court requirements and probation, the victim was released from jail Oct 24. She overdosed and died two days later.

A 25 year old man from Madison, Wisconsin died on September 2, 2010.

He kept a detailed journal chronicling his struggles with heroin addiction. His family kickstarted a educational film based on his journal about his struggles with addiction. The trailer for the film is available at youtube.

A 22 year old woman from Florence, Kentucky died on September 10, 2013 as a result of a heroin overdose.

There is a video available at vimeo of her parents telling their daughter's story and includes emotional scenes from the funeral ceremony.

She grew up in Florence, about 15 miles south of Cincinnati, and became addicted to heroin at 19 after beginning to experiment with drugs at 14 and progressing to pain pills. The family spent eight years trapped in a maze, trying to find something that would get her off drugs.

For every failed attempt at rehab, "that day that you're waiting for – that call – gets closer and closer and closer," her father said.

"The only way a heroin addict gets off heroin is when they die," he told his daughter. His warnings came true last September when she died of a heroin overdose at just 22.

She tried treatment. In fact, she tried seven or eight rehab facilities, all court-ordered, her parents said.

Each time she got out, she plotted how to get her next fix. After every relapse she'd say, " 'Mom, I don't know why I'm doing this. I don't want to do this.”

"She wanted to get better. That's the saddest thing," her mother said. "They don't want to be on it. None of them do."

On December 6th, 2015, a 35 year old man died at his office desk in Manhattan from a heroin overdose. Since then, his father has been speaking at seminars about the heroin crisis.

“On Dec. 6, 2015, my son died from a heroin overdose. The stigma is that of a lowlife junkie lying in an alley or a hallway with a needle stuck in his arm. My son was none of those things. It could be the popular cheerleader, a high school athlete or an Indian chief. This affects everyone.”

“The seminar’s primary goals were to increase awareness of heroin and other opiates, and how they affect the body; to show attendees where to get help for a family member who is using heroin; and to share information on how to assist someone in an overdose situation.”

A 32 year old woman from Duvall, Washington passed away on May 25, 2016 as a result of a drug overdose.

My baby sister 32 years young, she just left rehab two days before she died in a Motel room with two other addicts who did nothing to save her cause they nodded off allegedly, she died May 25th 2016.

Autopsy had Heroin, Valium, Meth and Alcohol in its findings.

Just wanted to share with all the people struggling with there addiction out there that iv been using herion for 9 yrs me and my girl friend. We both went to rehab n found out my sister was there also, she was supposed to put an extension and stay with us for another week. We left on the 19th she left a week earily. About 4 hours after we came home that sunday morning I got a phone call saying her*11 yr old daughter found her face down in the bathroom. Im not looking for sympathy, im just simply saying that no matter what happens in your life always have hope and just remember that we can over come this addiction and just take it one day at a time. I love all you guys and dont ever give up. We can stay clean just for today we can live to see tomorrow n then do it all over again.

He was a father, son, brother, and friend. He spent 43 days in a treatment center and was very optimistic the day he returned home. He overdosed two days later! The "friends" that were at his house that fateful night were afraid to call 911, they eventually did but it was way too late! I truly feel that if someone would have had a Naloxone kit that he would still be alive! R.I.P. MY FRIEND!
