Riverside Deputy Shoots Woman During Fight in Corona
On June 11, 2024, at about 1:10 a.m., a Riverside County sheriff's deputy assigned to the Lake Matthews station was in the 1,000 block of West 6th Street in Corona when he saw a man and a woman displaying unusual behavior. The deputy stopped to investigate. While he was speaking with them, both ran. The deputy chased them behind a building, where both were waiting. The male suspect attacked the deputy, and during the struggle repeatedly told the female suspect to kill the deputy. The female suspect joined in assaulting the deputy, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. She was struck by gunfire. The male suspect tried to take the deputy's firearm, and the fight continued until Good Samaritans arrived and helped detain him. Medical aid was given to the female suspect until paramedics arrived. She was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. She was identified as Jennifer Rose Dobbins, 30, of Imperial Beach. The male suspect, a 32-year-old man from San Diego, was arrested and booked for murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, mayhem, and resisting an officer with violence.
