Motorist Intentionally Plows into 3 Phoenix Police Officers
A man accused of striking three police officers with his vehicle at a Phoenix QuikTrip has been identified as 44-year-old Marc LaQuon Payne. A 33-year-old police officer who was on his first day after training suffered a head injury and a police sergeant, 41, suffered a broken leg. A third officer, 36, managed to jump out of the way but was injured during an extended struggle with the driver. Also two people inside the Quik Trip were almost hit as the car slammed into the front of the convenience store. The driver will be booked on three charges of attempted first-degree murder. “Police say 44-year-old Marc LaQuon Payne aimed at the officers and stepped on the gas, plowing into them.” The officers were seriously injured but are expected to survive, according to a statement from Phoenix police. The three officers had just completed a call for service and were standing in the parking lot in front of the store debriefing the incident when the suspect drove his vehicle directly at them attempting to run them over. Police told that “the suspect vehicle struck two of the officers, collided into a police vehicle and crashed into the QT causing extensive damage. The suspect then struggled violently with the officers for several minutes before being taken into custody. Payne was arrested in 1997 for kicking an officer during a roadside encounter. He received two years probation. |
