Neighbors said he was a nice guy who lived there 25 years, but apparently lost his mother recently. Suicide by cop... case closed.

PORT ORANGE, (March 21, 2024) — On March 19, 2024, at approximately 12:19 hours, Port Orange Police Department officers were dispatched to a well-being check, at 5981 Jandon Ct, in reference to a reported suicidal subject.

One officer was attempting contact at the front of the residence while a second officer was behind the residence also attempting contact. The subject exited the front door of the residence, armed with a large kitchen knife. The subject began charging toward one officer with the knife in hand and was given several commands to drop the knife. The officer fired three rounds from his department issued handgun, wounding the subject. Officers began immediately providing medical care to the subject, but he was later pronounced deceased.

This incident is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and is considered an open and active case.
