Female Cop Accidentally Shoots Motorist in His Back During Fight
*For the short attention people skip to 7 minutes into the vid. Police dash cam video released Monday shows a driver wrestle a Lawrence police officer to the ground and fight him before being shot in the back by another officer during a traffic stop last year. Brindley Blood, the officer who shot the man, is charged in Douglas County District Court with reckless aggravated battery. Blood has maintained the May 29 shooting was accidental and she meant to reach for her stun gun instead of her firearm. Blood resigned from the Lawrence Police Department on January 28. She is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. The video released Monday shows how the traffic stop quickly turned violent. The motorist, Akira S. Lewis, had been pulled over for not wearing a seat belt and refused to comply with demands from Officer Ian McCann to hand over his driver’s license and insurance information. Throughout the video, Lewis repeatedly said he was singled out by McCann, who he said didn’t stop other motorists for not wearing their seat belts. Lewis asked McCann to summoned a supervisor. McCann refused to do so. McCann called for backup and told Lewis he would be arrested if he did not cooperate. “You’re about to go to jail on a seat belt violation, are you really wanting to do that?” McCann is heard asking in the video. “You could give me your driver’s license, I could write you a ticket and you can drive home.” Lewis responded: “I haven’t done nothing.” After Blood arrived, McCann opened the car door and physically removed Lewis from the vehicle. Blood tried to intervene as McCann and Lewis wrestled. She pulled her gun and shot Lewis on the back of his shoulder. Other officers arrived, and McCann and Blood handcuffed Lewis. Douglas County prosecutors asked the Johnson County District Attorney’s office to review the case because Lewis was both a victim and defendant. Lewis, who survived the shooting, was charged in Douglas County with battery on a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer, no proof of insurance and driving without a seat belt. |

she shouldn't have been charged. she should have been commended. the idiot was beating the cops head to a pulp. if she doesn't intervene, the cop is possibly dead.

Re: Female Cop Accidentally Shoots Motorist in His Back During Fight
Omg...I get so sick of hearing people pull the “It’s because I’m black” card every time they get stopped for doing something wrong. You’re breaking the law. Although it is a stupid law imo, it is a law, and everyone is obligated to follow it. Do you honestly expect me to believe that while Mr. Lewis was driving in traffic, he was looking at everyone driving around him and looking for other drivers who weren’t wearing their seatbelts. Please! I’ve been stopped for a seatbelt violation, although I was actually wearing it. The cop soon realized my seatbelt strap matched the shirt I was wearing and let me go, but my point is, I’m white and I still got stopped. I could go on ranting about people playing the race card, but I don’t want to come off sounding like a racist. I’m the furthest thing from one, but I get tired of always hearing the “it’s because I’m this or that” excuse. If you weren’t breaking the law, the cop would have no reason to stop you in the first place. So follow the law like everyone else and stfu about color. On the shooting, again, if you had handed over your license respectfully as you were asked to do and not rolling around on the ground punching a law enforcement officer “PINNED” on the ground underneath you, you wouldn’t have been shot. Period. White people have been shot many times for doing the SAME DAMN THING, so your color has nothing to do with that either. I may get jumped on for saying this, but I reiterate I have nothing against black, Brown, yellow, green or blue, but if you feel you are a minority and singled out for whatever color you, move somewhere where everyone else is the same color you are, or stfu and follow the law. I apologize if anyone is offended. That was not my intention. I’m just sick of the race card bullshit. |
