On May 29, 2025, Chicago police officers were on patrol near 4300 W. North Avenue when they tried to make an investigatory stop of a person.

As officers approached, the person ran off on foot and officers chased them. While officers were trying to detain the person, they gave verbal commands and a struggle followed.

During the struggle, a round was discharged and struck an officer in the leg. A separate officer fired their weapon and struck the person.

The officer was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The person was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. A gun was recovered at the scene.
