If I were an entomologist interested in parasitology, I would probably take a wild guess that that caterpillar was infected with a parasite that made it purposefully seek getting ingested by frogs so the parasite could continue its lifecycle. Zombie snails come to mind.

Exactly! Just like the cat parasite that causes toxoplasmosis causes mice to seek cat urine thereby increasing the chance of being eaten.
That caterpillar looks a lot like the 'assassin caterpillar'. The worlds most poisonous caterpillar. Youtube it. Im posting from tapatalk, otherwise I would have included a video.
