Alec Blair pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and other charges and was sentenced to 45 years to life in prison for fatally stabbing his wife, Gaberien "Gabe" Clevenger, near Shelby, Ohio, on February 10, 2020.

Blair, then 21 and of Shelby, and Clevenger, 22, had been married for about eight months. They had separated, and Clevenger had moved out and was seeking a divorce amid reports of controlling behavior, threats and intimidation by Blair. The separation, pending divorce and Blair's inability to accept the end of the relationship were the motive.

On or about February 4-5, 2020, a Richland County Domestic Relations Court magistrate denied Clevenger's request for a civil protection order, finding she had not proven domestic violence by a preponderance of the evidence. She presented social media messages containing profanity but no explicit threats of violence.

Blair lured Clevenger into his vehicle under the pretense of going to the Richland County Courthouse to discuss the divorce. In the driveway of his home in the 900 block of Taylortown Road, east of Shelby, he went inside, retrieved a knife along with his lunch and stabbed her 14 times. Severe neck lacerations nearly severed her head and caused her to bleed out.

Blair did not call 911. He placed Clevenger's body in a field on Bowman Street Road near a cell tower in Jackson Township, then went to work. Her phone later pinged near his workplace. A friend reported Clevenger missing after she failed to appear for work at a Bob Evans restaurant.

Police questioned Blair at his job and observed suspicious items, including cleaning supplies and blood, in his vehicle. He initially gave a partial account, then led investigators to the body. Blair first claimed he had beaten and smothered Clevenger before admitting the stabbing. Evidence included his confession, the body location he provided, blood and cleaning supplies in his car, phone location data and injuries consistent with multiple stab wounds. No other suspects were involved.

In October 2020, Blair pleaded guilty as charged in Richland County Common Pleas Court to aggravated murder, three counts of murder, four counts of kidnapping, two counts of felonious assault, two counts of abduction, tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse. Judge Phil Naumoff sentenced him on January 22, 2021. Blair is currently incarcerated at Madison Correctional Institution and will first be eligible for parole in December 2064.
