It's cathartic for some, since the brother died so I expectantly viewing his body gave us an opportunity to say goodbye and kiss him farewell. It was just a close friend and family thing though no way would I have wanted everybody sticky beaking at him at an open casket funeral thingy (there was over 1000 people there) and he would have prolly gotten kinda ripe sitting out for so long during a heatwave. (His funeral was 5 days after his death)

We didn't have a funeral for my step mom. There was a church service a few days after she passed, but her body was cremated with no viewing. New years was her "wake", and it just turned into a huge party at a rented out bar and my dad paid for all the drinks. Over 100 people showed up who knew her. It was a good time. My dad is thinking about making some of her ashes into rocks to put at places that were important to her and them.

that sounds like a good way to celebrate her life, Neph...Good times and leave little vestiges of her at places that she loved...Also for the living, it is a good place for people to go to remember

I like mexican funerals better than american ones. I mexico we have big parties and celebrate their life, even give them a shot or two of tequila . Cry and hug the body or laugh with it.
There's been a lot of parties lately cause my dad had 7 brothers and a sister.
I kinda am getting tired of Tres Leches cakes and bright festive colors but its still better than somber black boring quiet funerals.

Because my Father-in-law was a decorated 'Nam vet, we didn't do the traditional Mexie funeral, and military funerals just gut you. I'd like to go the fun route next time someone dies. As long as there is no Flan. I will fucking burn houses down if anyone even suggests I eat Flan, lol.
