Russia's most modern tank, the T-14 Armata, of which we know almost nothing about. I don't believe it's been used in combat yet. Apparently the video was shot today at some training range in Russia, but not sure. There has never been a sighting of one of these in Ukraine, yet. Strangest thing about this tank: there's no one in the turret. The commander, driver, gunner all sit side by side in the front of the hull. That would be disorienting as hell, but at least the crew is separated from the ammunition. |

With this and the T-14 the Russians are definitely trying to finally separate the crew from the ammo. But not in the same way, it's interesting: Modern Western = Most crew are still inside the turret but there's a very good ballistic ammo storage compartment that vents any ammo detonations to the outside. (Which works very well, M1 Abrams, German Leopard for example) Modern Russian = Don't have any crew in the turret. For crew safety, place all crew in the hull. All ammo and turret systems controlled from there. (Has yet to really be evaluated fully) |
