Ukrainian forces have broken out from the Kupyansk bridgehead and have been moving deep into Russian-occupied territory. Russian troops try to establish a defense perimeter but Ukrainian forces already engage Russian troops in Orlyanske and Mykolaivka.

The interesting distinction of the fight in this sector is the extensive usage of light armored fighting vehicle on both side without any MBTs, yet. The heaviest on both sides are BTR-4 or BTR-82A which could result in back-and-forth as well surprises on both sides.

If I remember correctly those areas of advance have a significant railway going through it leading to Svatove. Lots of supplies for Russian forces directly from Russia. Take that out, things down south and east for them turn uglier.

It's ran by a Ukrainian in 93rd "Kholodniy Yar" Mechanized Infantry guy. Hands down one of the best units of the war.

Offensive in northeastern Kherson oblast. First screenshot is yesterday morning, second one is today a few hours ago.

Most of the Ukrainian flag raising videos floating today are these towns/villages.

Edit: If Ukrainian forces can push further southwest towards Berislav and Nova Kakhovka, Russians doing defense near Davidy Brid may pull back south to meet the Ukrainian offensive. Which would allow another Ukrainian offensive from there. I believe the Ukrainian General Staff are trying to get Russians to redeploy their forces away from other areas in Kherson oblast.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room

Putin’s Nuclear Threats Are Reaching Beyond Ukraine
Source: https://defconwarningsystem.com/2022...eyond-ukraine/

As Russian troops suffer setbacks on the battlefields of Ukraine, the Kremlin is more likely to use extraordinary measures to stop the deterioration of the Russian military. Such measures may range from using the winter season as a weapon to employing nuclear weapons. The current partial mobilization of the armed forces is the first step in the new phase of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The stakes for Moscow in this war are much higher than the setbacks caused by the lost battles. Historically, lost wars in Russia have been followed by severe national crises often accompanied by internally generated regime changes. To avert this eventuality, the Kremlin has to avoid further losses, solidify its gains in southeastern and southern Ukraine, and force Kyiv and its Western supporters to recognize Moscow’s war gains by ceasing hostilities and signing a peace agreement.

By announcing the partial mobilization of military reservists, Moscow risks triggering popular unrest in Russia. According to the official Kremlin version of events, the “special military operation” in Ukraine was progressing smoothly and without a diversion from the plan. At the same time, the Kremlin has refused to acknowledge huge manpower losses in the war. In his televised address on September 21, Russian president Vladimir Putin did call the “special military operation” a war. According to Putin, Russia is engaged in war with the West, and to win it, Russia needs 300,000 military reservists. For months, Putin was against military mobilization for political reasons. Now, he has been forced to acknowledge to the Russian people that the Russian military leaders had no choice but to call up military reservists.

The Russian military hardliners demanded some sort of a military mobilization from the very start of this war. By the end of the first week of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it became clear to most military observers that the Russian armed forces needed a strategic reserve to overcome Ukraine’s resistance. Starting to create new units seven months into a war is too late for achieving success through conventional military means. It will take several months to properly equip and train the reservists, and even then, they may just be enough to replace Russia’s losses on the battlefield and to allow for more frequent rotations of Russia’s frontline fighters.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room

Russian nuclear military train is seen on the move in 'possible warning to the West' that Putin is prepared to escalate his Ukraine war
Military analyst Konrad Musyka claimed the deployment of such units could signal a coming escalation in the conflict from the warmongering Russian president or constitute a precursor to large scale nuclear drills (Russian ICBM test launch pictured)

Concerns over the movement of the 12th Main Directorate's military hardware comes as NATO warned a key Russian nuclear submarine has left its base in the White Sea in northern Russia.

The warning note claimed the K-329 Belgorod submarine, which only entered active service with Russia's navy in July 2022, may be headed to the Kara Sea to test the feared Poseidon underwater nuclear drone.

Poseidon is said to be capable of travelling huge distances underwater before detonating with enough force to trigger a nuclear tsunami designed to drown and irradiate coastal cities.

The Kara sea is located off the eastern coast of Novaya Zemlya - a large Russian controlled island in the Arctic circle which has long been used as a nuclear weapons testing facility.

It was the site of the largest nuclear explosion ever recorded in 1961 when the USSR detonated the Tsar Bomba - a nuclear device ten times more powerful than all of the ordnance exploded in World War II which was downgraded because its original design was thought too dangerous to test.

Meanwhile, Chechen warlord and Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on Telegram this weekend that Russia should declare martial law in border towns close to Ukraine and deploy low-yield nuclear weapons to reverse recent military failures.

'I do not know what the Defence Ministry reports to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief [Putin], but in my personal opinion, we need to take more drastic measures,' he said.

Kadyrov complained that Putin's commanders had failed to rout Ukraine's supposed 'Satanists and fascists', and made no bones about his desire for nuclear weapons to be detonated on Ukrainian soil
