Whiskey's Briefing Room
I am going to put battlefield analysis, intel and reports in here, as I've been using both the media and discussion threads for this. It needs its own thread. This thread can also be used for military weapon/vehicle/aircraft/equipment/ ordinance media, identification and discussion. Posts do not have to relate to the current Ukraine/Russia war. Feel free to contribute with analyses, graphics, reports, intel, satellite photos, etc. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
From the Russian Telegram channel RYBAR: "The situation in the Lyman direction as of 10:00 a.m. on September 30, 2022 The "cauldron" around the Lyman is almost completely closed. The road to Torskoye is under fire control of the enemy (Ukraine). The day before, the 503rd Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment from the 19th Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Combined Arms Army was transferred to the site. Cadre military personnel side by side with the mobilized men entered the battle from the march, trying to alleviate the "stranglehold" that had gathered around Lyman. After the fall of Stavok, it was possible to stop the enemy on the outskirts of the settlement. To the north of Lyman, the front line runs along the boundary between the southern outskirts of Stavok and the northern outskirts of Zarechne. To the north of Zarechne, the Ukrainians calmly cross over to the other bank of the Zherebets River and operate in the area of the route to Svatove. To the south, the situation is worse: the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have moved from Yampil to Lyman, the settlement is in the gray zone. A similar situation in Drobysheve: the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to break through the defensive arrangements of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and force the Russian troops to retreat to the city. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to inflict fire damage on advancing enemy units. But at the moment, the Lyman defensive line has narrowed to the administrative borders of the city itself. If emergency measures fail to unblock Lyman and transfer a significant part of the reserves in the near future, the city will fall along with its defenders, and the Ukrainian formations will have no obstacle for the development of the offensive deep into Russian territories." |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
I am glad they like the HIMARS and find it useful! I would think it would also be an excellent idea from the standpoint of the company that makes the HIMARS, finding out it's weak spots and things that need to be modified to make it a better weapon system.

1. From a Ukrainian from Crimea who's profile reads "Ukrainian guy from Crimea, who’s now serving with the Special Forces. RCDS 2003. KCL 2004. Watch me on YouTube. Putin is a war criminal." POST QUOTE: "Reportedly, Ukrainian Army encircled 5,500 Russian troops near Lyman, including notorious 752nd Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment which was nearly annihilated in Grozny Chechnya on the new year eve 1995." ================ 2. "Soviet KrAZ-257 trucks, made in 1965, removed from storage depot, are being pulled to Ukraine. Photo taken at one of the Russian railway stations. Next will be chariots I presume."

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
Absolutely. It's Lockheed Martin (with other contractors certainly for components) that make the GMLRS rockets which HIMARS/M270/MARS fire. I have noticed in at least one video it's possible a GMLRS rocket was shot down seconds from arrival (over Nova Kakhovka I think). This would encourage an engineering program that incorporates stealth technology into guided munitions. Radar absorbing materials, angled shapes that reflect radar returns from the source. But aerodynamically, that is a nightmare. And fantastically expensive. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
"United States is supplying Ukraine with new high-precision missiles for HIMARS, – Ukraine Weapons Tracker analysts Missiles are designed primarily to destroy manpower. The new M31A1 missiles have an alternative warhead of 182,000 steel/tungsten spheroidal fragments and are designed to engage soft targets." i think this is a similar weapon type to what was used on the convoy. many various sized fragmentation hits off a single large impact |
