Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread IX
Ukraine is dependant on Western arms supply and now with Trump in command he just has to say this or else he will lose all support from the U.S. Everyone is getting war fatigue but the Trump election is just in time for putin/russia. Not that they would have lost the war as in defeat but put the country in an economic downfall as described in those two links. And citizens don't like economic downfalls. At the end no one will "win". It also shows that big countries can't simply invade and take ground from other countries without consequences even when they think they're justified due to historical reasons. putin clearly wanted to make whole Ukraine into some russian state and erase Ukrainian identity etc. In 2010, during the premiership of Viktor Yanukovych,(russian puppet) the Ukrainian parliament voted to abandon the goal of NATO membership and re-affirm Ukraine's neutral status, while continuing its co-operation with NATO. So there's only one to blame when it comes to being afraid Ukraine would join Nato and Nato moving towards the East.
In the February 2014 Ukrainian Revolution, Ukraine's parliament voted to remove Yanukovych, but the new government did not seek to change its neutral status. russia then occupied and annexed Crimea, and in August 2014 russia's military invaded eastern Ukraine to support its separatist proxies. Because of this, in December 2014 Ukraine's parliament voted to end its neutral status, and in 2018 it voted to enshrine the goal of NATO membership in the Constitution. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread IX
That is weird I read on Wikipedia that NATO invited Georgia and Ukraine in 2008 and promised that they would become members. But I could be mistaken. Also listening to these guys is how I always know what’s going to happen: https://podcasts.apple.com/nl/podcas...=1000671463840 |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Bucharest_summit “ Georgia and Ukraine had hoped to join the NATO Membership Action Plan,[3] but, while welcoming the two countries’ aspirations for membership and agreeing that "these countries will become members of NATO", the NATO members decided to review their request in December 2008.[4][5]” |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread IX
On 28 February 2022 the Russian Foreign Ministry promoted another Foreign Affairs article that Mearsheimer had published in 2014 titled, “Why The Ukraine Crisis is the West’s Fault”, the backlash against him was similarly emphatic and ranged from respectful disagreement to fierce condemnation. Stephen Kotkin, the preeminent historian of the Soviet Union, and Michael McFaul, the US ambassador to Russia between 2012 and 2014, acknowledged that Mearsheimer was “a giant of a scholar” and “one [of] the clearest, most logical realist theorists out there”, but he was wrong to blame the US for Putin’s invasion. In a more excoriating key, the journalist Anne Applebaum accused Mearsheimer of being Putin’s useful idiot as that's what he is imo Sachs is a China lover and spoke weird stuff about covid-19 being a ridiculous thought it was a lab leak and later he told it was a lab leak. Thought he could solve poverty in Africa but in the end it didn't and the transformation of the russian economy into a market economy during the perestroika era did fail. Don't say he's a total ass but he wasn't right in many other things. Also: https://thehill.com/opinion/internat...jeffrey-sachs/ Not too mention anti america/western pro kremlin puppet and probably paid by putin, Tucker Carlson and on top of that the convicted paedo scott ritter lol Bet you all follow them. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread IX
Everybody that does not agree with the narrative, is supposedly a (paid) Kremlin troll, I have been called that as well. However, always the characters are attacked never the arguments or logic. Chomsky is also a paid Kremlin troll. Same for former and future US president Trump. All scholars and political professors are Kremlin trolls. Never have I read any professor that believed that Russia wants to erase Ukraine or take over Europe and what so on. Only journalists that have to regurgitate democrat talking points IMO |

That is not to say you kellyhound or the others are wrong, merely that I believe your sources are not very coherent or academic and thus cannot explain/predict any developments. The ISW is another one. Always were they wrong. Call it confirmation bias but to me they are as worthless as the official Ukraine numbers |
