Ukraine was always a multi language country and for more than 100 years, the ethnic-‘Russian’ speakers called it Artyomovsk, this has nothing to do with any occupiers ( also more like: new owners), it is just the Language which a large percentage of (former) Ukrainians/ tens of millions in that country speak.
The Indians or the Mexicans had names for their villages as well, but not all genocide can erase language
