Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
Stop being ridiculous there's a reason it exists. It exists for almost the same reason as the Russian Su-25 Grach. A-10 is a gamble but if Ukraine is effective in taking out local guided air defense, it's deadly. It was literally designed to kill Russian tanks and keep flying with heavy damage. Edit: My brother in law, air force vet, was present at the airbase near Riyadh Saudi Arabia when that A-10 came back all fucked up by an Iraqi SAM but still flying. Here's their gulf war stats: https://www.2951clss-gulfwar.com/statistics.htm |

“A-10 is a gamble but if Ukraine is effective in taking out local guided air defense, it's deadly.“ If local guided air defense is taken out, Ukraine already has aircraft to battle tanks. A10 for Ukraine is literally wishful thinking armchair analyst twitter brownie points fishing. Nothing more. |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
If a Su-25 cannot complete tasks in a region then A10 is as useless, sure! In this case, A10 is merely a “wunderwaffen”, nothing that will actually change anything A su-25 cannot engage a target with its bombs. - What if it could carry 3 times the amount of bombs though?? A su-25 gets shot down due to AA - What if it could survive 50% more damage though?? And so on So while it is better, it is not that much better. Before a A10 is refuelled, some surviving Azov members hiding between residential buildings and hospitals already have engaged the tank with ATGM |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
The A-10 is the absolute best airframe I've had the pleasure to work on. They're super-tough. I've completed an ABDR (Aircraft Battle Damage Repair) course on them, and they can survive an immense amount of harm before they become unflyable. The only reservations I'd have about sending them over to Ukraine are the proliferation of sophisticated MANPADS and limited pilot training leaving them vulnerable to attack. Ask any pilot, there is NO substitute for seat time. What I would think would be an interesting scenario, some separated/retired A-10 pilots get some clandestine seat time to recertify and then send them over to engage in some good-natured air-to-ground warfare on behalf of the Government of Ukraine under contract, Air America style (CIA involvement cannot be confirmed or denied). Judging by what I've read in the last twelve hours, it's not likely to happen anyway. |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
Faust seems to get annoyed by the media attention that "wunderwaffens" receive and merely takes the position that since the media loves it, it absolutely must be useless. Strange way to think. There's a reason why the A-10 is loved, by both aviation ppl and everyone else. It's tough as all hell, refer to my brother in law who literally watched that fucked up A-10 land in Riyadh with half a wing missing, fucked tail and shrapnel holes all over the place. It also has been used quite a bit in Afghanistan where again, it was used effectively. The Su-25 is very capable, and tough as well. Not sure why you're choosing this topic for an argument it makes no sense |
