“ The Air Force has long argued that the Warthogs would be shredded by enemy antiaircraft fire in a contested environment. ”
So armchair twitter #osint wannabe analysts, versus ‘The Air Force’. Turns out your opinion differs from the actual ‘The Air Force’ whereas my opinion is agreed upon by the actual Air Force.

I never said A-10's should be sent to Ukraine. Ever. They'd be too vulnerable in this environment, there's so much anti air. You didn't even know what my opinion was it would seem

This is why I didn't post anything about the A-10 when all the Ukranian channels were freaking out about it

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread

A-10 has waaay too good of a resume to send them to UA. I think it’s better to retire them as is, instead of watching them fall and burn left and right. Safe reputation of your weapons for the future as it will serve you better IMO

It still has a use but my understanding the Air Force is phasing them out for some reason, probably to make more money available for America's insane defense contractors who want to make the next big thing and hand it off to the DoD for a nice fat 10 year manufacuring contract.

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread

The F-35 is slated to replace the A-10 in a CAS role. Keep in mind the A-10 was supposed to be phased out prior to Desert Storm. Back then, F-16’s were supposed to fill the void. What kept the Hawg’s around back then was an unparalleled ability to wipe kill boxes clean almost single-handed.

That GAU-8 brings a lot of Big Dick Energy to the playground that no other aircraft can match. It won’t go to Ukraine, but it won’t disappear.

We appreciated them in Helmand province but never personally saw one doing CAS

I also saw that that 1st person YouTube vid of that Army unit that had an A-10 helping them out big time in Afg. That was great to see

One of the few aircraft they designed a whole plane around a gun (30mm GAU-8)?
