My understanding as well, 30-40m or something close is what I recall as far as arming distance goes. Seems like a million years since I last shot HE out of a 203 so that's a pretty dated recollection.

My understanding it was around 30 or 40m when it arms midflight According to GlobalSecurity.org, it arms between only 14 and 27m which surprised me |
