"Hey guys remember that guy whose life I endangered by entering into a pointless war to begin with. Well we got him back safely. Aren't I awesome?"
It has now transpired that the pilots weren't conscripts, but had actually volunteered to join the USAF.

Re: ISRAEL & US vs IRAN Discussion Thread

President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran. This sudden reversal follows a series of escalating threats where he warned that a whole civilization will die tonight if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by his 8:00 P.M. ET deadline.

Trump agreed to suspend planned strikes for 14 days after Pakistan mediated a deal. He cited a new 10-point proposal from Iran as a "workable basis" for long-term peace negotiations.

Trump claimed on Truth Social that the U.S. has already "met and exceeded" all military objectives, describing the current situation as a "double-sided CEASEFIRE".

He reiterated that his primary objective remains ensuring Iran will "never have a nuclear weapon".

Iran confirmed it has ordered its armed forces to pause "defensive operations," but only as long as the U.S. and Israel also stop their attacks. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned that their fingers remain on the trigger.

Iranian officials claimed the U.S. was forced to accept their 10-point proposal, calling the shift in Trump’s rhetoric a retreat and a humiliation for Washington.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that while shipping would resume, it would be under the coordination of the Iranian Armed Forces. There are reports that Iran and Oman may attempt to impose a transit fee of roughly $2 million per ship to fund reconstruction.

Iran emphasized that a permanent deal requires a full U.S. military withdrawal from the region and a total lift of all economic sanctions.

Direct negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials are scheduled to begin this Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, mediated by the Pakistani government.

The 10 points Iran proposed as a basis for the upcoming negotiations in Islamabad are:

1. Commitment to Non-Aggression: A fundamental, formal guarantee from the U.S. that it will not launch further attacks or pursue acts of aggression against Iran.

2. Strait of Hormuz Control: Continued Iranian military oversight and coordination of all maritime traffic passing through the strait.

3. Nuclear Enrichment Rights: Official recognition of Iran's right to enrich uranium for its domestic energy and medical programs.

4. Lifting of Primary Sanctions: The immediate removal of all direct U.S. economic sanctions imposed on Iranian entities and sectors.

5. Lifting of Secondary Sanctions: The removal of all U.S. penalties against foreign companies or countries that conduct business with Iran.

6. UN and IAEA Resolution Termination: An end to all past and current punitive resolutions issued against Iran by the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

7. Release of Frozen Assets: The immediate return of all Iranian funds and properties currently blocked in foreign accounts due to sanctions.

8. War Reparations and Compensation: Payment for the extensive damage caused to Iran's civilian and military infrastructure during the conflict.

9. U.S. Military Withdrawal: The complete exit of all American combat forces and the closure of U.S. military bases throughout the Middle East region.

10. Global Ceasefire: A total cessation of military operations on all fronts, which Iran specifies must include an end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon and against its regional allies.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has stated that these points must be codified into a binding UN Security Council resolution to ensure they become international law.

Quite sure all this above is a nono proposal.

Im confused with your logic, so because they volunteered its okay for their lives to needlessly be put in danger? Just wanting to make sure.

"Needlessly" is a qualifying factor that you have invented. It is your opinion and has no place in an argument of logic. So I don't see any point in serving you a reply to that statement. Plus you do tend to disregard anything that threatens your rigid and unalterable world views.

Interesting. Once again, "I won't respond because you won't listen." Thats a scenario you have created yourself. And honestly is more trolling than anything. Please enlighten me.

Re: ISRAEL & US vs IRAN Discussion Thread

Here are my views in attempt at discussion.

Reasons why the war is uncessarry.

The clearest sign that this war is unnecessary is because its most basic principle falls apart in mere seconds.President Donald Trump framed the conflict around preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. That argument becomes far less convincing when measured against his own record. After U.S. strikes in Iran in June 2025, Trump claimed that Iran’s nuclear sites had been “obliterated.”

Even if he is lying in June, a precursor to the type of strikes he initiated without congress approval is imminent danger.

Regime change.

The Trump administration appeared to believe that Iran could be pressured, fractured, or politically reshaped in the same way other authoritarian regimes like Venezuela have been. But Iran is not Venezuela. The Islamic Republic is not built around one man bargaining for his position. Rather, it is a multilayered theocracy designed to endure internal and external shocks with power distributed across the supreme leader, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Assembly of Experts, Guardian Council, and president. Each of the entities in Iran tie its well-being to the stability of the state; removing or weakening one figure does not unravel the system. That is precisely why Iran’s leadership did not capitulate after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei at the start of the war.

I don't personally care for the Iran government. They could all commit suicide and the world would be better, but actual Americans have died now. Children have died unnecessarily and why? As a political decoy to draw attention away from unflattering statistics? Gas went up. And is only down now because as part of the "ceasefire" sanctions were dropped which, has only increased money in Iran and their proxies pockets.

Please feel free to discuss, that is the point of a discussion thread.

Re: ISRAEL & US vs IRAN Discussion Thread

Here are my views in attempt at discussion.

Reasons why the war is uncessarry.

blah blah blah

Please feel free to discuss, that is the point of a discussion thread.
For brevity I'll condense in to this -

theocracy + Uranium 235 = oh shit!

Nobody who takes his guidance from imaginary sky fairies should have a nuclear weapon. It's that simple. Even if this doesn't justify an all out war, it certainly justifies air strikes on Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities along with the assassination of the critical actors in the nuclear weapons program.

Without knowing the mission details, it is impossible to accuse the pilots of having taken part in a 'needless' or 'uncessarry' operation, as you so eloquently described. They may have been taking out weapon sites that were used to target merchant shipping in the Hormuz. Or even better, targeting the primary and secondary infrastructure needed for the production of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

I have had a keen interest in Iran's nuclear program for more years than I care to remember and it is no secret that this has been a cat and mouse game between Iran and the IAEA for too long now ; it takes a certain amount of time to enrich the 60Kg of >90% U235 needed for a simple bomb. That clock isn't at zero yet but it's getting close.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what Iran's plans are - they removed all the IAEA cameras from their enrichment facilities and expelled all the inspectors.

So I heartily welcome any action to destroy Iran's military and nuclear capabilities. And I don't much care for brutal Islamic theocracies either. So something has to be done. You can't just have a stern word with them, they need a fucking slap and that is what they are getting.

I'm also pretty sure the pilots aren't angry at Donald Trump for putting them in danger. It's just you getting cross and bothered for nothing.
