Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VII (2025)
Actual sexual assault happening at Israeli checkpoints. "Israeli soldiers exposing their genitals at checkpoints. During hearings by the UN Commission of Inquiry on Palestine on 11 March 2025, Kifeya Khraim, International Advocacy Officer at the Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counseling, and Witness 3, a Women Human Rights Defender, testified about sexual violence by Israeli forces and settlers. Women in Hebron reported that at certain checkpoints, soldiers deliberately expose themselves. One university student recounted how a soldier positioned himself in a blind spot, exposed himself, and ordered her in Arabic to come closer and touch him. Another case in Jerusalem involved a 14-year-old schoolgirl who was molested by soldiers under the pretense of a security search." |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VII (2025)
Regarding the multiple reports today from various parties, I don't see any trolling here, just differing perspectives and opinions. And, if someone wishes to post sources to counter an argument, they are welcome to do so provided it's not blatantly promoting terrorist organization narratives. This applies to Hamas and other organizations officially classified as terrorist groups, as well as posting directly sourced information from such organizations. That said, sometimes these sources are used to highlight blatantly propagandized narratives versus reality. Even then, each case is assessed individually by the moderators. One should consider all sources to be biased one way or another - most of it propaganda in some form. Use your critical thinking skills to assess and interpret the information. A good example is that we post the daily Russian loss reports from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense – a government entity, which we must assume is not completely accurate, but we post them to provide a snapshot of what is being reported. Mondoweiss appears to be a pro-Palestinian source reporting on news from Palestine, Israel and the US foreign policy. Being pro-Palestinian doesn’t mean they are pro-Hamas, just as being pro-Israel doesn’t mean supporting every action of the Israeli government. Conflicts are complicated, and it's important to avoid generalizations about entire groups of people. Not every individual on one side of the conflict is responsible for the wrongdoings of others. The goal should be constructive discussion, not endless arguments. If you can't be civil or stop engaging with people who hold differing opinions when the discussion gets heated, that may result in thread bans. This applies to all parties involved.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VII (2025)
In this context, right here, right now, I am on the site's side as a moderator. AGAIN and for the last time - if you have an issue with how I handle this or anything else as a moderator - send an email to Chris privately, as the rules state. If you think you're going to be allowed to continue making serious allegations against me or the site because you don't like the outcome of something, like you did ten days ago, you're sorely mistaken.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VII (2025)
You claimed repeatedly that I and the site harbor terrorists, which would be highly offensive if it weren’t so absurd. Personally, I support Israel’s response to Hamas' actions on October 7th. Hamas perpetrated horrific atrocities and in doing so, fully instigated this conflict. I’m just wary of governments and ruling parties in general, including Israel's government, but that doesn't trickle down to the people who are ruled by them. I don’t agree with your sweeping generalization that “all Palestinian men, women, children, and animals are terrorists" who should all die, but you don't need me to agree with it. That doesn’t mean I support terrorism or terrorist ideology. I simply don’t believe in generalizing entire groups based on the horrible actions of the worst among them. It’s a lazy and dangerous way of thinking, but that’s just my pro-human opinion. I realize this doesn't sit well with some people who expect me to chose sides in everything, but I don't need anyone to agree with it. I’m not here to police opinions and penalize people with differing views. It’s the trolling, name-calling, slurs and endless bickering that derail conversations, which is when I have to step in as a moderator. So in that regard, let’s both stop derailing the thread now and move on.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VII (2025)
v1r if you're trying to present your side as reasonable and logical you should probably fire yourself and allow someone who doesn't insult mods and make strawman arguments to represent your position This conflict is far too complex to make black-and-white judgments of either side. The world is extremely, extremely grey Also DR itself doesn't have official "opinions" regarding politics or conflicts so anything that doesn't break its reasonable rules should not be censored. I have my own opinion about this conflict but I'm not advocating anyone who disagrees with me should be censored and/or banned, that's just childish, weak and dumb |
