My Jeep Build Thread, 1989 YJ on 42 Swampers
This will be my personal Jeep thread where I post some pictures of my play toy. I'm putting it in this forum because obviously, it's a piece of art! How I bought it My son and our wiener chilling in the baby Jeep. My buddies play toy, not as cool as the Jeep, but Mason liked it, wanted a picture next to it. First we remove and strip down all the stuff we don't like, this was a big job for such a little person. It's not all hard work though, sometimes we take breaks for fun stuff. Sometimes thinking about what to do is as hard as actually doing it. Still removing junk we don't want Added mosterliner, so no rust, no mess from the mud. Mason said we needed new tires, he was right, so we got these. Time to get rid of those junk Jeep axles, we mean business, we are going with Dana 60's. Strip down to paint the frame, make the shock hoops. Frame back on Starting to do a mock-up, I took all mandatory OSHA work breaks! We used Mason for a height reference. The stock dash was crappy, so we got another one. Out comes the dash. In goes the new one. More rust and mud proof paint Painting the Dana 60's

Mocking up the axles and the coilovers. More mockup, added winch and front bumper, and hydro-steering as well. Wiring up the dash and gauges, added steering wheel. Welding in a custom cage. Quality testing the custom cage. Doing underhood wiring and breather stuff. Added seats, seat covers, etc Backed it out of the shop under its own power. Road tested by driving to my sisters house about ten miles away. That's a quick and dirty Jeep build, I skipped some steps cause there were just too many pictures, but that's the jest of it lol.

Re: My Jeep Build Thread, 1989 YJ on 42 Swampers
That's what I had always intended to do with my old '82...Dana 60s front and back - but back then that was way above my skill level and financial means. Dude I ended-up selling it to did custom made, reverse-pinion, Currie 9" diffs front and back. Warms my heart to see Super Swampers and SIDEWALL instead of a "stance'd" truck with low-pros stretched over deep dish chrome. |
