Fuel Tanker Explosion Shuts Down I-75 in Troy
A fuel tanker drifted into the median on I-75 in Troy, Michigan, and exploded on July 12, 2021. The driver survived. The fire burned for more than two hours and damaged the freeway pavement. I-75 was shut down, with three entrance ramps also closed to limit traffic. Temporary repairs were expected to allow limited reopening within two to three weeks, followed by single-lane closures for permanent repairs. One lane in each direction was later reopened, with repairs expected to continue through the end of August.
