Antares Rocket Explosion at Wallops Island
This is video from NASA that shows the explosion and complete failure of the Antares Rocket several seconds after liftoff. The rocket was unmanned, and according to some reports, exploded purposely after the system detected malfunctions, it was said that this is done to avoid a situation where you have a runaway rocket.

I think it was 2014, but I could be wrong.

Re: Antares Rocket Explosion at Wallops Island
Coolest video I ever saw of a rocket exploding was a Titan IV. It was a helicopter video with radio audio. You see the rocket clear the gantry and then explode, but the epic part was the audio. The pilot was dictating what he saw and ground control would repeat what the pilot was saying. Pilot- We have ignition. Ground- Copy that, we have ignition. Pilot- We have lift off. Ground- Copy that we have lift off. Pilot- We are clear of gantry. Ground- Copy that, we are clear of gantry. Pilot- HOLY SHIT THE THING BLEW UP!!! Ground- Copy that, holy shit the thing blew up. No lies, ground repeated what the pilot said in monotone just like that. |

Coolest video I ever saw was the Nedelin catastrophe that killed everyone within, like, a 100 yard radius. All those dudes sprayed with nitric acid from the rocket fuel oxidizer running around on fire was BOSS! |
