A Transasia Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration B-22816 performing flight GE-235 from Taipei Songshan to Kinmen (Taiwan) with 53 passengers and 5 crew, departed Songshan's runway 10. Shortly after takeoff at 10:52L (02:52Z) the aircraft began to roll left, the crew radioed "Mayday! Mayday! Engine Flame Out!" at 10:53L with no further transmission, the aircraft reached a maximum height of about 1050 feet (corrected for QNH), lost height, struck a taxi, hit a Huangdong Boulevard Viaduct with its left wing at nearly 90 degrees of bank angle at about 10:55L (02:55Z) and impacted the water of the Keelung River near the Nankang Software Park coming to rest inverted, about 2.9nm from the end of runway 10. 17 people were rescued alive, 23 occupants were killed, 18 people are missing and feared trapped inside the wreckage almost submerged in the river

At least 25 people died and 15 survived a spectacular crash caught on video of a TransAsia Airways flight that clipped its wing on a bridge after takeoff from the Taiwanese capital Taipei and crashed into a nearby river.

Anyway, I have a fee theories of what could have happened. A loss of engine power on the right side, malfunctions with the flaps or alierons, or loss of hydrolic pressure. This video really reminds me of the AA 191 image.

Ih, just heard that engine flameout was expected to be the cause. But these planes are able to fly on one engine. Wonder what made them lose that much control.

Sorry to say, but Asian pilot are much like Asian drivers!

Even the pilots on the heavy jets often can't fly worth crap when the autopilot is disengaged. He probably freaked if there was a flame out and banked too sharp causing the aircraft to lose lift on the port wing. Once that starts to happen you are screwed unless you have a lot of altitude to recover from the stalled wing.
