Seventeen-Year-Old Rachel Obergh's Plane Crashes in New York
A New York teenager, whose journey to the University of Rhode Island took an unexpected turn when her small plane crashed, is expressing her gratitude for being alive and even light-heartedly suggesting that the admissions office might take sympathy upon hearing her extraordinary story, which was incidentally captured on video. Seventeen-year-old Rachel Obergh, accompanied by her father, Louis Obergh, was on her way back home on a single-engine plane when the incident occurred on Long Island. Rachel recounts the tense moments when the engine abruptly ceased functioning at an altitude of around 2,000 feet. Her father, remaining calm, instructed her to "hold on" as he activated the Cirrus SR22's parachute system. For Rachel, the ordeal felt like her life flashing before her eyes as the aircraft executed an emergency landing in an industrial park. After the dust settled, her father urged her to run to ensure their safety. Miraculously, both Rachel and her father escaped the crash without serious injuries. Despite this frightening experience, Rachel maintains that the University of Rhode Island remains on her list of prospective colleges, undeterred by the extraordinary circumstances she and her father faced during their journey. |

Re: Seventeen-Year-Old Rachel Obergh's Plane Crashes in New York
These Cirrus SR-22's are famous for their parachute escapes. They don't land that gently, but everyone survives. I read the FAA accident prelims on a daily basis, and occasionally you see people who got killed in a Cirrus crash (No optional chute) right alongside people who survived because their Cirrus had a chute. Much better than just plowing into trees or a building, and exploding into flames. P.S. Does ANYONE HAVE VIDEO OF THE ULTRALIGHT CRASH THAT KILLED THE CHICK IN L.A. WHO WAS ON THE T.V. SHOW "Batchelor" or whatever it was called? With all the cell phones that are out there, SOMEONE must have caught the accident or the aftermath. Thanks! |

HEY, KELLY! I was just looking at other posts, and you put up one where a SR-20 collided with another aircraft. The parachute also came out on that SR-20, but the aircraft was already on fire, so the vid shows it's slow descent to the ground while it burns. The people on board were killed. (Hopefully in the accident, and not burned to death while they slowly descended.) This other post was on 2-10-2010 in the aircraft crash section. It is on the last page of the posts. You have a real knack for catching Cirrus aircraft with their pants down.........LOL!

Well, that was a really lucky landing spot.
