Cargo Plane Crashes Near Dubai Killing Six Crew Members

A tragic incident unfolded last Wednesday when a Sudanese cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Sharjah International Airport, located to the north of Dubai. The devastating crash resulted in the loss of the entire six-member crew, but fortunately, there were no other casualties reported on the ground, according to an official statement.

The Boeing 707 aircraft went down in a remote, uninhabited area approximately two miles (three kilometers) away from the airport. Sheik Khalid al-Qassimi, the director of the Sharjah department of civil aviation, confirmed that none of the crew members survived the crash. The crash site was situated in a desolate stretch of desert, devoid of any nearby buildings or structures.

"The place is contained. All the fires are extinguished," al-Qassimi stated. "We are picking up bits and pieces for the investigation."

Details about the carrier were limited, but it was revealed that the flight was en route to Sudan. The Boeing 707 model aircraft, primarily in use during the 1960s and 1970s, was involved in the tragic incident.

Sharjah International Airport, situated southeast of central Sharjah, is known for its role in cargo flights and serving as a hub for low-cost carriers. The airport is home to Air Arabia, the largest budget airline in the Middle East.

Love the old 707's. Beautiful planes.

My idea of a freighter is the A300-600ST (Beluga).

Yep that certainly will haul some freight. The other jet from that 707 era was the Convair 880. My Dad retired from the airline flying that jet.

Re: Cargo Plane Crashes Near Dubai Killing Six Crew Members

back in hong kong when i was in school they took us into the airport when it was still kai tak and they took us "behind the scenes" so to speak so we could see where they would test the engines in these enclosed laboratories, was pretty cool,

The Convair 880 was one of the fastest airliners ever built. It was far faster than a 707. (And far faster than any passenger jets flying today, as well!) Most jets operate about .8 mach, but I think the 880 would go up to .9 with no problems. Convair spent a huge engineering effort to get the maximum speed out of it, while controlling compressibility effects.
I need to go back and find the articles on it. Too bad it didn't sell as well as the 707. Thanks for posting the added info........I bet your dad has some really good stories to tell.
